Outstanding Cobalt-and-Albany-Slip-Decorated Lion Doorstop, attributed to The Donaghho Company, Parkersburg, WV, late 19th century, molded figure of a lion on a stepped rectangular base, the surface covered in Bristol slip and decorated throughout with brushed cobalt and Albany slip highlights, including spotted decoration to the base. Impressed circular eyes to lion and incised details to muzzle, paws, and tail. Few examples of this form by Donaghho are known. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Base chips. Two small chips to top of mane. An in-the-firing surface crack to head, not visible on interior. L 10 1/8".
