Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Apple Motif, Stenciled "Hamilton & Jones / STAR POTTERY.," Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of an apple hanging from a leafy branch, between the stenciled words, "Hamilton & Jones." and "STAR POTTERY." Freehand stripe decoration below rim. Desirable decoration, form, and "STAR POTTERY" maker's stenciling. A large, mostly tight star-shaped spider crack on underside, forming a wider crack at base on side of jar, which continues onto shoulder. H 9 1/4".
