Rare Stoneware Jug with Lizard Handle and Applied Foliate Decoration, Midwestern origin, circa 1885, cylindrical jug with incised bark surface, the handle modeled in the form of a lizard with incised face and feet, the jug decorated on two sides with large applied plant motifs. Surface covered in a brown Albany slip glaze. One plant motif with two missing leaves and a long missing section to one stem, all lost prior to glazing. Other plant motif with one missing leaf, also lost prior to glazing. A minor chip to one leaf. A minor chip to top of opposing plant's stem. A miniscule base nick. H 9 5/8".
