Six-Quart Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to the White's Pottery, Utica, NY, circa 1870, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, applied clay tabs fitted with a wood-and-wire bail handle, and applied clay handle at base on reverse, the front decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird atop a stylized branch. Impressed "6" for six quarts at shoulder on reverse. Includes small, loosely-fitting wooden plug for spout. A 5 1/2" crack from rim on side of pail. Minor chipping to rim. A 1" horizontal line along top edge of rim. A thin 3/4" flake to handle at base. H 10 1/2".
