Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed and Dated "Lanier Meaders / 19-87," Cleveland, GA origin, 1987, ovoid jug with finely-sculpted face including kaolin eyes with cobalt-slip pupils and incised eyelashes, applied eyebrows, ears, nose with prominent bump on bridge, and mouth with kaolin teeth. Surface covered in a mottled-green alkaline glaze. Incised on underside with Lanier Meaders signature featuring a conjoined L and M, followed by a 1987 date. Relatively few examples of Meaders's work are dated. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some firing lines to surface and an in-the-firing separation to one eyelid. H 9 3/4".
