Fine and Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Clover Decoration, attributed to Joseph B. Remmey or J.B. Magee, Northeast, MD origin, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with footed base and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with two clover plants featuring fern-like foliage and distinctive application of the blossoms. Graduated swag decoration to collar. Stripe decoration to spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Literature: For a jar bearing a related clover motif excavated between the Remmey and Magee sites in Northeast, see Koterski, Potters and Firebrick Makers of Cecil County, Maryland, and Nearby 1750-1950, p. 47. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 11 3/4".
