Scarce Multi-Glazed Redware Lidded Sugar Bowl. attributed to J. Eberly & Co. or S. Bell & Sons, Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, ovoid form with arched lug handles on pedestal base, the surface dipped in cream-colored slip, decorated with splashes of copper and manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Includes original domed lid. A lesser-seen form in Strasburg redware, typically found with moderate to significant damage and/or missing its lid. This work is noteworthy for its remarkable state of preservation. Bowl with small rim chips and a small chip to underside of one handle, a 3/4" slender in-the-firing contact mark to bottom edge, and minor base wear. Lid with a 7/8" unglazed in-the-firing contact mark to edge of lid. A small chip to flange on underside of lid. H (including lid) 5 1/4".
