Exceptional Four-Gallon Canada West Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Canadian origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, brush-decorated with a large bird perched on a tree stump with broad band of cobalt ground below. Impressed at the shoulder with the advertising, "W NORTHWOOD & CO / GENERAL DEALERS / CORNER OF KING & WILLIAM ST / CHATHAM CW." Outstanding decoration. Excellent condition with small chips to interior of spout, some staining, a minor base chip, and some in-the-firing discolored spots to base area. H 18 1/2".
