Scarce Four-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "C.L. WILLIAMS / & CO. / BEST BLUE / STONEWARE / NEW GENEVA, PA.," circa 1890, bullet-shaped jug with cylindrical spout and two handles applied at the shoulder, featuring C.L. Williams maker's stenciling and desirable "BEST BLUE STONEWARE" slogan. Stenciled above with small ferns, a "4" with flourishes, and a scrolled design. Decorated below handles with additional scrolled designs, an unusual treatment. Excellent condition with minor staining, minor surface wear, and a minor in-the-firing base chip. Large yellow crayon price of 55.00 on underside. H 18".
