Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S BINGHAMTON," NY State origin, circa 1860, wide-mouthed, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a poppy plant with striped details to the blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes wooden lid of unknown age. In-the-firing chips around underside at edge. Two minor chips to end of one handle. Opposite handle with a 7/8" glazed-over chip. A 3" hairline from rim on reverse. A faint 1 1/2" surface line at base on reverse, not visible on interior. Minor staining. Some minor surface wear. H 13 1/2" ; Diam. (at rim) 13".
