Rare Anna Pottery Stoneware "Black Hills" Pig Flask, Signed "Anna Pottery," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1880, molded flask in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, incised details to face and hooves, and anatomically-correct underside; incised on one side with cobalt-highlighted inscription, "Shortest Quickest. Cheapest and only / Safe and reliable Route to California. / and the Black Hills By / Anna Pottery." Incised below and on underside with a cobalt-highlighted railroad map including the following landmarks: St. Louis Kansas City and Northern Railway, St. Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, Julesburg, Hot Springs, Sidney, Cheyenne, and Black Hills. This flask features lesser-seen incising with Western U.S. landmarks, a scarcer salt-glazed surface, and desirable Anna-style flourishes to the inscription. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a salt drip near pig's rear. L 7 3/4".
