Fine Large-Sized Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Alkaline Glaze, attributed to Reverend John Landrum, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1820-1840, highly-ovoid jug with stepped spout and two open handles applied at the shoulder, the surface covered in a two-tone alkaline glaze with gray-green coloration at the shoulder and dark-brown below. Incised with five (or six) punctates at the shoulder and measuring roughly five gallons in capacity. Base with two impressed slashes, a hallmark of pieces produced at the pottery of Reverend John Landrum. Desirable form and size. Two spout chips. A small surface chip on the front and reverse, both with thin lines emanating from them. Small base chips. A minor in-the-firing lime ping to midsection. H 16 3/4".
