Very Rare Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware, Inscribed "B.F.," Benjamin Franklin Landrum Pottery, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, the surface covered in a glossy greenish alkaline glaze. Crudely-incised by a pottery worker with the initials, "B F," at shoulder, referring to the owner of the operation, Benjamin Franklin Landrum. Few pieces bearing a hand-incised inscription from this pottery are known. A large in-the-firing flake to side of handle. Wear to top edge of spout. Some stable exfoliation to underside. H 14 3/4".
