Rare Salt-Glazed Tanware Pitcher, New Geneva or Greensboro, PA, circa 1885, ovoid-bodied pitcher with tall, flaring collar, brush-decorated on the body with an undulating vine between freehand stripes and around the collar with stylized floral devices between freehand stripes. This example features rare exposure to salt vapors, which has essentially transformed it into Albany-slip-decorated stoneware, giving the surface a gray color with light sheen. An approximately 1" restored chip to rim with a 1 1/4" line descending from it. A smaller restored chip to spout. A large glued circumferential crack around body indicates the pitcher was likely broken into two pieces and reglued. H 7 3/4".
