Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Dog Motif, Stenciled "PALATINE POTTERY . CO / PALATINE / W. VA," circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring a stenciled design of a standing dog surrounded by Palatine Pottery Company maker's stenciling. Incised "X" on underside. Three small chips to interior of rim. A minor chip to inner wax sealer rim. A chip to bottom edge of rim on reverse. Light surface wear. A tiny in-the-firing ping to shoulder on front. H 10 1/2".
