Extremely Rare Multi-Glazed Redware Chamberpot, attributed to S. Bell & Sons, Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, ovoid form with footed base, tooled shoulder, and spurred handle, the surface dipped in yellowish slip, decorated with splashed copper and manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Underside with old pencil inscription, "Bell Pottery," along with an unreadable price, as well as the number, "945," indicating it was part of the Alvin H. Rice collection. Literature: Listed in Rice and Stoudt, The Shenandoah Pottery, pg. 209, Catalogue of Collection #945, as "CHAMBER / S. Bell & Son." Two areas of restoration to rim, measuring approximately 2 3/4" and 2 1/2". Small spots of wear to rim. Minor wear to handle and base. H 6 1/2" ; Diam. 9".
