Slip-Decorated Redware Bowl, Lower Shenandoah Valley origin, probably Weis Pottery, Shepherdstown, WV, circa 1800, flare-rimmed bowl with footed base and triple-beaded rim, slip-cup-decorated with alternating straight and wavy trails of manganese and yellowish slip, applied under a clear lead glaze. Literature: For a related work attributed to the Weis pottery, see Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pg. 99, fig. 4.50. Provenance: From an eighty-plus year private collection. Significant flaking to interior. A long crack from rim, extending through most of well. A hairline extending from rim to well. Chips and wear to rim. Heavy chipping to foot. Diam. 13 1/2" ; H 3 7/8".
