Very Fine Slip-Decorated Redware Bowl, Hagerstown, MD origin, possibly Henry Adam, early 19th century, with rounded walls and flattened, semi-rounded rim, the lead-glazed interior decorated with alternating vertical trails of manganese and cream-colored slip. Manganese wavy line design around rim. A striking example of early and distinctive Hagerstown slip decoration. Literature: Illustrated in Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pg. 90, fig. 4.18. Provenance: From an eighty-plus year private collection. Wear to interior base area. Light wear to inner rim. Some small glaze flakes to cavetto. Diam. 12 3/4" ; H 3 3/4".
