Exceptional Small-Sized Stoneware Hunt Scene Pitcher, Stamped "*D & J HENDERSON / Jersey City," NJ origin, circa 1829-1833, molded pitcher with hound-form handle, glazed interior, and lightly-glazed exterior, the body with relief decoration designed by modeler, Daniel Greatbach, depicting hounds taking down a boar and stag. Hand-incised details to paws of hound handle. Underside impressed with circular Henderson maker's mark along with a relief "I," incised "X," and small incised "C". Pieces produced at this short-lived manufactory represent some of the most high-styled stoneware produced in 19th century America. This pitcher is the only Henderson piece molded in this combined size and form that we have offered, as well as the smallest New Jersey hunt scene pitcher that we have seen. A slightly larger pitcher, standing 6" tall, resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 5 1/4".
