Very Rare Glazed Redware Shaving Pitcher with Attached Receptacles, Inscribed "James Wilson / 1849," probably NJ origin, 1849, ovoid pitcher with flared base, fashioned with an attached jar and bowl for holding a shaving brush and soap. Front incised "James Wilson 1849." Lead-glazed surface decorated with streaks of manganese over an olive-to-orange ground. Provenance: Believed to have been made for a resident of Monmouth County, NJ by a local potter; Ex-Collection Edna M. Netter, Marlboro NJ; Purchased by the consignor from the Stradlings, New York, NY in June 1981. Wear to rim of pitcher and handle. Small chips to base of pitcher. Rim of bowl with a shallow flake and minor wear. Jar with chipping to rim and a small base chip. H 5 1/2".
