Very Rare Glazed Redware Tiered Serving Dish, PA or Northeastern U.S. origin, second or third quarter 19th century, composed of three wheel-thrown, graduated saucers attached by applied clay legs, surmounted by a miniature ovoid jar resting on three feet. Surface decorated with sponged manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Exceptional form, possibly a sweet meat dish. Aspects of the color and decoration relate this work to pieces produced in the Eastern half of Pennsylvania as well as pieces from the Norwalk, CT/Huntington, NY school. Restoration to rim area of central jar. A 1 1/2" professionally-restored section to rim area on middle tier. A professionally-restored 2 1/4" section and 2" section, both along top of rim of bottom tier. A tiny colored nick to rim of bottom tier. H 6" ; Diam. 7 1/4".
