Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Norton Family, Bennington, VT, mid 19th century, a one-and-a-half-gallon ovoid jar with slip-trailed bird-on-branch motif, stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855; paired with a two-gallon jar with elaborate slip-trailed floral decoration and associated lid, stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1860. Bird-decorated jar with restoration to base, in otherwise excellent condition. Floral-decorated jar with staining, a 3" inverted Y-shaped line from rim on front, a 6" crack from rim on reverse, chips and wear to inner rim for lid, two chips to exterior of rim, and small flakes to front. Lid in excellent condition with traces of old red paint. H (of shorter) 9 3/4".
