Very Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Angel Decoration and Inscription, Ft. Edward, NY origin, circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a figure with spread wings and top hat standing on a stylized ground. Inscribed above with words that read something like, "War vs Lavey." Cobalt accent to capacity mark. The decorator of this crock is the same that produced the iconic Fort Edward frog designs, as both motifs feature the same style of body and legs. Most of crock's bottom is missing. Large cracks throughout. Thin surface lines to rim. Two small rim chips. A small chip to one handle. H 13 3/8".
