Three Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, Mid-Atlantic origin, circa 1860-1890, a one-and-a-half-gallon ovoid jar with brushed tulip motif, stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA," circa 1865; a two-gallon cylindrical jar with brushed horizontal tulip motif, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875; and a one-and-a-half-gallon milkpan with swag decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1890. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA. Two-gallon jar with water glass staining to exterior and interior, in otherwise excellent condition. Cowden & Wilcox jar with filled rim chips, the largest measuring 2 1/4", a small unfilled rim chip and minor rim nicks, staining, a short, thin crack from rim on reverse, a faint line across underside, some fry to cobalt, and exfoliation to interior. Milkpan with a crack from spout, a crack from rim on reverse, and a small chip to interior of rim. H (of two-gallon jar) 13".
