Rare Early-Period Stoneware Face Jug with Alkaline Glaze, attributed to Lanier Meaders, Cleveland, GA, circa 1965, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with an applied clay face with rounded nose, open mouth, large ears, and ball-shaped eyes set deep within applied eyelids. Surface covered in mottled green alkaline glaze including black-glazed pupils to eyes. Underside with old black marker price, "$17.00," the reverse with old paper label. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with original in-the-firing separations in eyes and a short, faint vertical line at base on reverse, probably in-the-firing. H 9".
