Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Hunter Decoration, Stamped "JORDAN," circa 1835, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, brush-decorated at the base with a man in coat firing a rifle at a flock of birds. A billowing cloud of smoke appears at the front of the rifle's discharge and a smaller cloud emanates from the rifle itself. The birds are depicted in a stylized manner as a cluster of X's. A tall flowering plant, executed in the typical Jordan style, emanates from the ground and features a dramatic, looping stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Exceptional decoration and desirable maker's mark. A large network of cracks ascending from base towards midsection, emanating from a single crack on underside. A few small surface flakes to left side of jug's front. An in-the-firing contact mark to front of jug. Small droplets of old white paint to surface. H 12".
