One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "H. SMITH & Co.," Alexandria, VA circa 1825-1831, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, angled rim molding, and applied tab handles, brush-decorated on the front with a stylized floral motif in the Wilkes Street style and on the reverse with simple floral motif at the shoulder. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A small chip to underside at edge. A minor base nick. Some in-the-firing dryness to surface. A smooth, unglazed in-the-firing contact mark near base on side of jar. H 9 1/8".
