Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Mug, Stamped "BAECHER / WINCHESTER, VA" and "Backer," Anthony Bacher, Winchester, VA, circa 1880, flare-rimmed form with tooled midsection and ribbed handle, the surface dipped in yellowish slip, decorated with marble manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Underside impressed with two different Anthony Bacher maker's marks. A 1 5/8" base chip. A 1 3/4" worn section to rim area. Light rim wear. Some small glaze flakes to interior. Other very minor surface wear. H 3 5/8" ; Diam. 4 3/8".
