Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Bird-and-Floral Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA," NY State origin, circa 1870, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail, perched on the stem of a flowering plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes associated Albany-slip-glazed lid, marked "4," and wooden dasher. Provenance: Bruce and Vicki Waasdorp, Clarence, NY. Some fry to bird and cobalt on maker's mark. Chips and wear to inner rim for lid. An approximately 4 1/2" Y-shaped line on underside, connecting to a long X-shaped line at base on reverse/side. H (excluding lid) 17 3/4".
