Exceptional Large-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H. GLAZIER / HUNTINGDON, PA," circa 1831-1854, squat-shaped, ovoid jar with tall collar and vertical strap handle, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with an undulating vine bearing two differently-styled tulips. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed on collar with Henry Glazier maker's mark. Outstanding form and size. Among the largest Glazier pieces known. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA; acquired by Shedd at Kinzle Sale Management Service, American Stoneware Pottery II, The Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Reynolds, Duncansville, PA, 1976. Includes red-and-white sticker from Reynolds collection on underside. Missing one handle. A very large piece reglued at base, extending to underside. This damage includes a long vertical crack on one side of jar, extending between the terminals of the missing handle, as a long, thin Y-shaped crack to opposing side of jar. Base chips. A few rim chips. Some light flaking to shoulder area on reverse. Some matte in-the-firing drips to one side. Rim of jar is slightly out-of-round. H 14" ; W 13".
