Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Harrison Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1835, ovoid jar with footed base, flared collar, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a double-stemmed floral motif featuring hanging fern-shaped blossoms. Garland decoration below each handle, one handle including a flower below. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A chip to exterior of rim and nick to interior of rim. Base chips. Some small surface flakes near base. A short Y-shaped line at base beside a short, faint vertical line. Some light wear to cobalt on one side. Two small slash marks carved below one handle sometime after the firing. H 15 1/8".
