Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, attributed to Capt. James Morgan, Cheesequake, NJ origin or possibly Manhattan origin, fourth quarter 18th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with three conjoined, slip-trailed "watch springs." Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. An in-the-firing surface chip to front and reverse. One handle with a network of tight cracks and a surface chip. An inverted Y-shaped crack from rim, descending under same handle. A vertical line on side of jar. Crazing to much of surface. H 13".
