Outstanding A.O. WHITTEMORE. / HAVANA. N.Y. Three-Gallon Stoneware Fish Crock handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a large fish. Excellent detail throughout including a folky facial expression, five fins, vertical striping to the upper half of the fish's body, and horizontal dashes to the lower half. Design measures an impressive, roughly 9" length along the curve of the crock. Two slip-trailed 3's above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. This crock was famously featured on the business card of renowned Saratoga Springs, NY stoneware dealer and collector, Willard Grande. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor from Willard Grande in 2002. Essentially as-made condition with some fry to cobalt, an in-the-firing contact mark below handle and on reverse, and a minor 3/4" worn spot on reverse. H 10".
