Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with horizontal tulip and foliate motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a curving line of cobalt below each handle. Includes a Remmey swag-decorated lid, possibly original to the crock. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA; purchased by Shedd from Dean Reynolds, Huntingdon, PA in 1971. Excellent condition with some staining. Crock is somewhat out-of-round. Lid in excellent condition with two minor chips to flange on underside and minor staining to top. H (including lid) 11 3/4" ; Diam. (of lid) 12".
