Slip-Decorated Redware Sugar Bowl with Lid, PA origin, 19th century, ovoid form with footed base, tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, including its original, slightly-domed lid. Bowl and lid decorated with splashed yellowish slip and covered in a reddish-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Underside of bowl inscribed in pencil, "Given to / Grandmother / Brady miller from / her mother when her / first[?] baby as born - / your Mother / from / Ethel Bley / 1941." Small chips around interior of rim. Very minor wear to exterior of rim. Two tiny glaze flakes to one handle. A minor glaze flake to opposite handle. A thin 1 3/4" crack from rim and a minor scratch to shoulder. Kiln stacker marks to underside. Lid with chipping to flange on underside of lid. A few minor chips to outer edge of lid. Diam. 6 3/8" ; H (including lid) 4 3/4".
