Extremely Rare One-Gallon Ovoid Stoneware Jar with Mulberry Slip Decoration, attributed to Henry Glazier, Huntingdon, PA, circa 1831-1854, rotund, squat-shaped jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated around the shoulder with a swag-and-tulip motif in reddish-purple slip. Outstanding form, possibly used to hold sugar or baked beans. Literature: Illustrated in Shedd, Glazier Stoneware Huntingdon PA., p. 40. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA; purchased by Shedd on Warrior Ridge, Huntingdon County, PA. Some light, scattered exfoliation to one side. A small in-the-firing contact mark near base. Very minor chipping to base. A minor rim chip. H 8 5/8" ; Diam. (across base) 7 1/2".
