Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Vine Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1865, cylindrical-bodied pitcher with incised banding to midsection and tall collar with tooled rim, the body decorated with a long, undulating vine above a freehand stripe. Two additional vine motifs decorate the sides of the collar. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Appealing straight-sided form and desirable large size. Restoration to tip of spout and vertical band along surface of spout. A restored 1 1/2" flake to exterior of rim. Minor chipping to rim. A 1 1/4" horizontal crack along top edge of rim. Some surface restoration below brushed cobalt band. Some crazing to left side of pitcher below brushed cobalt band. An in-the-firing fissure to underside, not visible on interior. H 14".
