Manganese-Decorated Redware Jar, Norwalk, CT origin, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with tall collar, applied tab handles and elaborate tooling to shoulder and rim, the surface decorated with haphazard manganese brushstrokes and covered in a clear lead glaze. Provenance: The Estate of Susan H. Myers, author of Handcraft to Industry and former Smithsonian Curator of Ceramics and Glass. A large (1 3/4" x 1 1/2") rim chip on reverse. Roughness and wear to rim. Shallow base chips. Minor surface wear. Minor nicks to one handle. H 11".
