Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, attributed to Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico County, VA, circa 1838-1868, both of similar ovoid form, a one-gallon jar with brushed, cloud-like flower blossom on the front and reverse, paired with a two-gallon jar with stylized, star-shaped foliate motif on the front and reverse. Smaller jar with staining and minor traces of old white paint, two chips to underside at edge, two rim chips, and a long hairline hairline at base. Larger jar with surface wear, two stone pings to shoulder area, small chips to one handle, two chips to opposite handle, a crack across underside, extending onto base area on front and reverse. H 9 1/8".
