Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to John Poole Schermerhorn, Richmond, VA, circa 1830, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and large lug handles, decorated on one side with an undulating vine bearing four circular flower blossoms, and on the reverse with a vine bearing two larger blossoms. Cobalt stripes to tops of handles. Inscribed with a freehand cobalt "3" under each handle. Some surface wear to midsection. Some very faint surface crazing. Some staining. H 14".
