Exceptional Redware Hanging Flowerpot with Brilliant Copper Glaze, Stamped "JOHN BELL," Waynesboro, PA, circa 1840-1880, molded form with flared rim, featuring elaborate relief decoration of a woman emerging from a tulip surrounded by arched leaves. Further decorated above with relief daisy motifs and scrolled foliate devices. Underside with acanthus leaves and surrounded by a band of raised studs. Surface covered in a vibrant green lead-and-copper glaze. Impressed with inverted "JOHN BELL" maker's mark at shoulder. Original piercings for hanging at the rim. Original drain hole in underside. The finest redware example of this form that we have ever offered. A 3" surface flake to edge of rim. A rim chip. Other rim wear. A 2" hairline from rim. Light wear to underside. Some other very minor flecks of wear to surface. Dimensions: 9 5/8" x H 4".
