Unusual Lidded Redware Butter Crock with Manganese Decoration, Southern or Mid-Atlantic origin, mid 19th century, cylindrical form with footed base, concave walls, and depressed slab handles, decorated throughout with dark streaks of manganese and covered (including underside) in a clear lead glaze. Includes original domed lid with tooled finial and matching decoration. Crock with rim chips, a minuscule base nick, handle wear, and a small lime ping to underside. Lid with chips to outer edge, small chips and wear to flange on underside, a chip to finial, and an in-the-firing contact mark to top near edge. H (including lid) 5 1/2" ; Diam. 6 3/4".
