Scarce One-Gallon Manganese-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "H. GLAZIER, / HUNTINGDON, PA." circa 1831-1854, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with a brushed wavy stripe in reddish manganese slip. Impressed with Henry Glazier maker's mark near base. Literature: Illustrated in Shedd, Glazier Stoneware, p. 38 and back cover. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA; purchased by Shedd at Kinzle Sale Management Service, American Stoneware II, The Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Reynolds, Duncansville, PA, 1976, lot 203. Rim chips. A 6 1/2" hairline on side of jar. Two short surface lines to rim. Two minor in-the-firing base chips and a minor in-the-firing surface fissure to underside. H 9".
