Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Batter Pails, attributed to the White's Pottery, Utica, NY, circa 1875, both of ovoid form with tubular pouring spouts and wood-and-wire bail handles, one decorated with a slip-trailed "orchid" motif, the other decorated with a slip-trailed looping line below the number "4," for four quarts. Orchid-decorated example with chips to handle at base on reverse, a line and old putty repair to one ear (this ear possibly being reglued), and a short line to spout. Line-decorated example with two chips and two tiny nicks to shoulder molding as well as a small in-the-firing chip to underside. H (of taller) 9 1/2".
