Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON, / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1841-1844, ovoid form with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with finely-brushed design of three flowers emanating from a central stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. In-the-firing iron pings to surface. Crazing to handle terminals. A salt drip to left side. An approximately 4 3/4" spider line to to surface on reverse, not visible on interior. Small spots of white paint to reverse. A 2 1/4" surface line from rim on front, not visible on interior. Iron pings to surface, including a 3/8" glazed-over iron ping to side of rim. Small chips to interior of rim. Nicks to inner rim for lid. Hairlines to underside at edge. A chip to underside at edge. H 19 1/4".
