Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a horizontal tulip motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and dashes of cobalt below each handle. Includes finely-decorated, unsigned Remmey lid with four floral motifs, loosely-fitting and probably not original to the crock. Crock in excellent condition with a small chip to exterior of rim, a shallow 5/8" flake to interior of rim, a 5/8" inverted U-shaped surface crack above one handle, a short line to top of rim, and a 2" surface line from rim on front. Lid with sealed 5" crack from edge, a minor chip to knob, a small chip to flange on underside, and a shallow in-the-firing contact mark to flange on underside. H (of crock) 9 7/8" ; Diam.
