Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Harrison Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1835, cylindrical cooler with tapered shoulder, squared rim, circular bunghole, and applied lug handles. Front of cooler profusely-decorated with an unusual design of two flowering vines, one extending from handle to handle, the other forming a long U-shaped curve. Vines surround a central flower. An additional floral motif featuring splayed, fern-like leaves appears at the center. Brushed cobalt around bunghole. Handles with cobalt-highlighted terminals and a wavy cobalt line underneath. Desirable form with strong decoration. Excellent condition with a few small rim chips. H 16 3/4".
