Fine Mocha-Decorated Redware Pitcher, PA origin, mid 19th century, ovoid pitcher with footed base, tooled shoulder, and wide rim with pinched pouring spout, extravagantly decorated with manganese seaweed designs in the English mochaware style, applied into light-orange slip. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze. A related example has resided in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art since 1911. Other related examples from this school are illustrated in American Radiance by Kellogg, Esmerian, and Hollander. Very nice condition with a small spout chip, a chip and wear to rim, minor surface wear, a small chip to underside at edge, and a minor wear to base of handle. H 4 3/4".
