Extremely Rare Stoneware Cup with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Charles F. Decker, Chucky Valley, TN, late 19th century, ovoid-bodied cup with flared rim, decorated around the body with three boldly-brushed tulips in the Decker style. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The tea-cup-style form of this piece is highly unusual in 19th century American stoneware, typically only seen in redware. While a number of cylindrical mugs by the Decker family are known, this cup is the first example of this specific form that we have seen. Handle restored. A tiny nick to interior of rim. H 3 5/8" ; Diam. 3 7/8".
