Two Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs, New England origin, third quarter 19th century, both of cylindrical form with tooled spout, a two-gallon example stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1855, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized branch. Other jug with slip-trailed foliate motif, Stamped "J.S. TAFT & COMPANY / KEENE N.H." Norton jug with a restored section to bird's wing and bird's foot, a small chip to top of spout, and a small in-the-firing iron ping at base. Taft jug in excellent condition with a small in-the-firing iron ping to right of decoration and some old white paint to base of handle, unrelated to any sort of restoration.
